The Delta State Police Command says sixteen suspects were arrested in Ughelli by its operatives during the protest of youths against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Scores of youths in the state had on Tuesday protested against the arrest and detention of some youths by the anti-graft agency.
It was gathered that no fewer than 95 suspected internet fraudsters were reportedly nabbed during a sting operation by operatives of EFCC, Port Harcourt Zonal Command on Thursday, September 29, 2022.
The protesters, who called for the abolishment of the agency, alleged that EFCC operatives extorted cybercrime suspects.
Following the degeneration of the protest, which led to the destruction of several properties, the Chairman of Ughelli North Council, Olorogun Godwin Adode imposed a dawn to dusk curfew in the town.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ari Muhammed Ali debunked rumours that one person was shot dead during the protest.
Ali who spoke to newsmen on Wednesday, said the Police are very professional in handling situations.
He said he visited Ughelli to assess the damages done during the protest, noting that calm has been restored to the area.
