Rivers 2023: AA governorship aspirant sues Dawari George, party

Aleruchi Williams, a governorship aspirant in the Action Alliance (AA) in Rivers State, has sued the party, its governorship candidate, Dawari George, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt over alleged unlawful selection.

Williams, who came second place during the party’s governorship primaries, is asking the court to direct INEC not to recognize Dawari George as the governorship candidate of the party.

He also prayed the court to disqualify him from contesting the 2023 election.

When the matter came up in court on Wednesday, counsel to the plaintiff, Celestine Wosa applied for a motion ex-parte for a substituted service which will give him the opportunity to serve the third respondent, Dawari George, by pasting the court processes on the wall of his residence in Port Harcourt.

The Presiding Judge, Justice, Sa’adatu Mark, after listening to the counsel, adjourned the matter till the 5th September for ruling on the motion.

Meanwhile, the suit filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will resume hearing on September 14.

In the suit before the court, the APC is asking the court to disqualify all candidates of the PDP for the 2023 general elections for allegedly delaying forwarding the register containing the names of their candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission within thirty days as required by law among other allegations.
