Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike says he and other governors of the Peoples Democratic Party met with the presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu; Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi and that of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar to chart a new course for Nigeria.
Speaking at a press conference in Port Harcourt on Friday, Wike who was flanked by the Abia and Benue State Governors, Okezie Ikpeazu and Samuel Ortom, said that discussions were ongoing to determine the best man for Nigeria.
Wike also said that the team met with Ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo during the cause of their stay in Europe.
He said “We met with the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress. We met with our leader, Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party. We also met with our own presidential candidate for the first time despite all the reports about meetings that never held.
“For its worth, consultation is ongoing. What it is all about is for the interest of Nigeria. It is nothing parochial. What is going on will be for the interest of Nigeria at the end of the day.”
Wike also took a swipe at the former Jigawa state governor, Sule Lamido, saying that he doesn’t believe in the existence of the country.
He said Lamido was only interested in how to introduce his children as governor and member of the national assembly.
He said: “It’s so unfortunate the type of country that we are in. A man finishes to be a governor, what the man does again is to insist that his son should be governor. That’s part of the crisis that we are having. These are the people who say that they are leaders of this country. What example are they showing as leaders?
“Leadership is not all about you. Leadership is not all about you and members of your family. Leadership is about everybody. Somebody finishes eight years as governor, he brings his own son to be governor, brings his son to be member of the national assembly. It is only in this part of the world that you can see that”
