Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Barrister Christopher Green says Rivers United will be ready for Watanga FC of Liberia in the first round of the CAF champions league.
Rivers United will face their Liberian Opponent on September 9th, 2022 at the Adokiye Amaesimaka stadium in Port Harcourt.
Christopher Green during an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt said the club is making efforts to bring in new players to beef up the squad ahead of the competition.
He assured that all necessary arrangements, as well as logistics, have been made to ensure a hitch-free encounter in the first leg against Watanga FC of Liberia.
”The draws have been done, it’s a competition of champions and so you don’t expect anything less. You don’t expect anybody to lie low for you. We’re champions of Nigeria and they are also champions of Liberia. Yes, they have started preparing before us because their league ended at quite a good time for them, while we ended our league”.
”We’re trying to see how we can replace or fit in players in areas of our need and you know how difficult it is. But that’s not an excuse, we’re up for it. We will face it” he said.
The Commissioner for Sport in Rivers State Christopher Green also revealed that the club is finalizing an agreement ahead of the proposed friendly match against Ghana’s Asante Kotoko billed to hold in Turkey.
He said the friendly game is part of the team’s preparation for the first-round match of the CAF Champions League.
”We’re finalizing our papers. It was a proposal and we’re finalizing certain areas of our disagreement. Of course, I have been through this before in the Nigeria Football Federation as the Chairman of the Technical and Development Committee, if you’re inviting us, I want a situation where it will a total package of sponsorship. There should be a sponsor and the sponsor should cater to everybody”
