Okrika police rearrest custody escapee

The police have rearrested one rape suspect, Michael Robinson who had in January this year escaped from the custody of the Okrika Police Division.

Robinson, 40, was accused of defiling a 5yr old female minor in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The suspect escaped the day the doors of the detention facility of the police station were broken by hoodlums at about 2am.

Robinson allegedly defiled the victim in December last year when he visited the father of the victim who he claimed to be his friend.

The suspect met only the minor at home and confessed to have fingered her private parts but denied any form of organ penetration.

Narrating how the cell doors of the police station were broken, the Divisional Crime Officer through the investigation police officer of the defilement case, Lovena Elijah
said, “the hoodlums broke the padlock of the cell, and also opened the backdoor of the cell where the inmates escaped through.

Confirming the suspect’s rearrest to our correspondent, the case complainant and older cousin to the victim, Hezekiah Theophilus said the suspect was rearrested in Ogu community and had been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

“I just returned from the police station where I went to confirm the rearrest of the suspect that defiled my cousin and he had been transferred to the state CID,” the complainant said.
