Police nab four suspects, as gunmen kill 2 in Rivers community

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two people in separate attacks in Elibrada community, Emuoha local Government Area of the State.

It was gathered that the victims, Ote Wosu, a member of a local vigilante group, and a youth, Gift Augustine were killed by gunmen for unknown reasons.

The spokesperson of the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko who confirmed the incident, said four suspects have been arrested in connection with the killings.

A member of the newly formed Emuoha Local Government Vigilante Service (EMOVIS), Godknows Wakama, is one of the suspects linked to the killing of the youth, while the three other suspects were nabbed for their alleged involvement in the killing of Wosu.

It was gathered that the vigilante member, Wakama, had reportedly fired the shot that killed Augustine, when members of the outfit went to the community in search of a cult gang that killed one of its members.

The police spokesperson said that the suspect (Wakama) has been transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (SCID) for proper investigation leading to the killing.

According to her, “Currently the suspect has been arrested and transferred to the state CID for discreet investigation.

“The command sympathizes with the family of the bereaved and we advise that they remind law abiding and not to go against the law.

“They should work with the police division closer to them.”

Meanwhile, the chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Chidi Lloyd has suspended the commander of EMOVIS, Ikenga Godwin following the development.

Lloyd, in a statement, said the suspension is to allow for proper investigation into the matter, as he also announced the appointment of Agi John Chidi as the new commander.
