Police begin probe as 21-year-old apprentice commits suicide in Rivers

A 21-year-old apprentice mechanic has allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Wobo street in Mile 3, Diobu axis of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

It was gathered that the victim identified as Sunday Orime, took his own life on Thursday night as the cause of the incident is yet to be known.

The Chief Security Officer of Nkpolu Oroworukwo community, in Mile 3 Diobu, Godstime Ihunwo, who confirmed the incident to journalists in Port Harcourt on Friday, said he received a distress call from residents of the compound at about 8 pm on Thursday.

According to him, he swiftly got to the scene of the incident and thereafter informed the police.

He said, “Yes, I can confirm that. Yesterday (Thursday) by 8pm I received a distressed call from residents around 27 Wobo Street in my jurisdiction.

“I rushed down to the place and confirmed it was true. So I quickly informed the police at Nkpolu Division and as I speak with you, the corpse has been deposited at the University of Port Harcourt mortuary.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said an investigation has commenced to ascertain the cause of the action.

“Yes, we got the report this morning and we are trying to ascertain what would have prompted the action. But the police have already evacuated his corpse,” she said.
