Chairman of Akuku-Toru LGA lauds Rivers United for winning the NPFL title

The Chairman of Akuku Toru Local Government Council Roland Sekibo has felicitated with Rivers United FC for emerging champions of the 2022 Nigeria professional football league NPFL.

Roland Sekibo while speaking to newsmen after the football match between Rivers United and Gombe held in Port Harcourt, said the feat achieved by the rivers united football club is worthy of commendation.

Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt was officially crowned league champions on Sunday during the NPFL matchday 38 tie against Gombe United at the Adokiye Amaesimaka Stadium.

The Chairman Akuku Toru local government council Roland Sekibo also commended Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike for sowing the seeds of football development in the state.

”Let me first and foremost especially congratulate the players and technical crew of Rivers United for this feat. It is not always easy to achieve feats like this. For some players it’s a once-in-a-lifetime to become the champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League for the year 2022, we can all agree that it’s not easy”.

”I want to congratulate them for their hard work, congratulate them for their determination, and commitment in achieving this feat.

The Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area Roland Sekibo further commended the Governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike for his investment in sports development in the state.

He said the passion of the Governor to provide the necessary infrastructure for sports development was the major factor leading to the success of the team in the Nigeria Professional Football League.

Roland Sekibo also asked Governor Wike not to relent in his support for Rivers United especially as they prepare to represent Nigeria on the continent next season.

The Port Harcourt-based club alongside Plateau United of Jos will represent Nigeria at the 2022/2023 CAF Champions League competition.
