Family of abducted man begs Rivers govt for help

The family of Mr. Thomas Odion, a Rivers resident, has cried out over the disappearance of their father who was allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint by some unknown men in the Oyigbo area of the state.

According to the family, Odion was abducted on May 19, 2022, on his way back from his patent medicine store, where he was accosted by his abductors and forced into a waiting vehicle.

They disclosed that the kidnappers had demanded a ₦ 15 million ransom. They ended up dropping off a ransom of ₦1.5m at an undisclosed location between Ogoni and Andoni, two weeks of negotiation.

The distressed family stated that the kidnappers had asked them to “go to Imo Gate (the boundary between Rivers and Abia State)the next day to pick him, which we went but didn’t find him,” adding that it was the last they heard from the kidnappers.

They further revealed that the matter has been reported to the Anti Kidnapping Unit Mini Okoro Police station with no tangible results, as “they only keep asking us for more money.”

They called on the government of Rivers State and well-meaning Nigerians to help them find their loved ones as their efforts have proved futile.
