Desmond Iwuchukwu

FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, has congratulated the newly crowned Nigerian Professional Football League NPFL champion, Rivers United, for their historic feat.

The Pride of Rivers emerged as the 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) winners, their first in history.

On this triumphant win, Gianni Infantino praised the club and gave out its heartiest congratulations to the Champions Rivers United FC for their fabulous performance.

In his letter addressed to the President of Nigeria Football Federation NFF, Amaju Pinnick, and made public by the Glass House, the Swiss-Italian said: “Rivers United is the 2021/22 champions of Nigeria.

“It gives me great pleasure that I congratulate Rivers United for having been crowned 2021/22 champions of Nigeria!

“This title could not have been achieved without the entire team’s hard work, passion, and dedication and everyone at the club can be very proud. Please extend my congratulations to everybody involved in this great achievement”.

“On behalf of the entire football community, I also take this opportunity to thank you and your Federation for your contribution to the development and prosperity of football in Nigeria, in your region, and in Africa”.

“I look forward to seeing you again soon,” he said.

Rivers United emerged winners with four matches to spare and are currently with 74 points, 10 points ahead of second-placed Plateau United after 36 of 38 matches.
