Gunmen ambush, kill ASP in Rivers

An Assistant Superintendent of Police ASP attached to the Rivers State Police
Command has been shot dead at Oyigbo local government area axis of the State.

The officer was shot dead on Tuesday by the gunmen.

Our correspondent gathered that the yet-to-be-identified ASP was ambushed by the gunmen while returning from work in the area.

According to locals, the late ASP was rushed to the hospital immediately the shooting occurred but later died while receiving treatment.

The Spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, who
confirmed the incident to our correspondent said the command has set up a machinery to forestall the repeat of such incidents.

She, however, said investigation into the killing has been ordered by the Commissioner of Police with the
view of bringing the perpetrators to book.
