Cubana shooting: Burna Boy should publicly apologise – Okowa’s aide

Ossai Ovie Success, the Special Assistant on Media to Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has called out Grammy-award winner, Damini Ogulu, widely known as Burna Boy to apologise for the shooting at Club Cubana, Lagos, instead of displaying what he described as ‘rudeness’.

The singer’s police escorts were alleged to have shot and wounded two people at the club on June 8, 2022, after one of their partners turned down his offer to join him and his friends in their VIP section.

The lady, Briella, had faulted Burna Boy’s and the club’s management for lack of remorse for the incident.

She explained that she was traumatised from the event which almost claimed two lives.

According to her, “11 days later, there has been no CCTV footage released by the club OR even a statement to address the incident publicly. The business has carried on as usual for him.

“To sum things up, I’m traumatized. I’ve broken down every day since then. The random flashbacks and nightmares. Especially after seeing @burnaboygram’s response.

“The lack of remorse or accountability is beyond me. At least two people could’ve died that night.”

A few days after the incident, Burna Boy had tweeted, “Nigerian Social media can say BURNA BOY started Boko haram, e no go shock me.”

However, reacting to the incident, Okowa’s aide in a statement via his verified Facebook page on Tuesday, encouraged Burna Boy to publicly apologise for the incident.

He maintained that as a renowned personality, he ought to drop his pride and apologise whether wrong or right.

“Burna Boy should apologize for the shooting at Cubana Night Club publicly. As a public figure, it’s your responsibility to take the blame and apologise whether you are wrong or right.

“Burna Boy keeping silent over what happened at Cubana club shows the pride in him. While investigations are ongoing, he should apologise to us all.

“What happened that night did happen because he was there and the officers attached to him did the shooting, so it’s paramount he tender his apology instead of displaying rudeness.

“Victims are in hospital and yet his pride doesn’t want to allow him to apologise. Burna Boy has no justification for not apologising,” he stated
