A Lagos based Islamic group, Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation on Saturday donated palliatives including cash to indigent Muslims in Rivers State.
The foundation was established to fulfil one of the five pillars of Islam which has to do with poverty eradication among Muslims.
The foundation receives funding through a compulsory two and half percent annual payment from the income of wealthy Muslims which the group distributes to indigent Muslims across the country on yearly basis.
Over 40 Muslims who benefited said they received refrigerators, industrial sewing machines, hair-dressing equipment, grinding machines, generator sets and cash.
Some of the beneficiaries: Hajaru Yunusa and Adamu Suwaiba prayed Allah to keep blessing those behind the gesture, adding that the items they received would help boost their meager businesses.
Speaking with our correspondent, the team leader of the group, Alhaji Isa Oni said the gesture is mandatory on all wealthy Muslims as Allah uses it to protect, replenish and with paradise assurance to those who comply.
He said, “the distribution in Rivers State took place simultaneously with Abia State and we are looking at reaching out to over 22 states across the federation this year.
“The cash donation is for those with challenges such as business, house rent, school fees and medical bills among others.”
