Erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP), Chief Eze Chukwumeka Eze has reacted to claims of
an attempt by Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike to smear the personality of former minister of transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
According to him, “it is not unusual for perfidious characters and disgruntled elements to always devise satanic schemes to scuttle the breakthrough of former Rivers Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, at the brink of every milestone in his political journey.”
In a statement in Port Harcourt, Eze said he was concerned about the worries expressed by Nigerians in several quarters over the latest attempt by Wike to “impugn and deride the persona of Amaechi”, who is also a presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Eze, who is a member of the APC Legacy Projects Media Team, said with Wike’s comment on the recent judgment of the Supreme Court, “it is usual for Amaechi to go through trials and tribulations ahead of any elevation as such challenges equip him better to face the task of his new status in public service with courage and foresight.”
Reacting to the Supreme Court judgment, he noted that the Judicial Commission set up by the Wike’s Administration lacked Powers to try Ameachi.
He maintained that the panel, as ruled by the court, was a mere fact-finding commission, adding that the “said N96B was duly captured in the 2014 budget of the State.”
The party chieftain stated that the ruling of the court has vindicated the former Rivers Governor and cleared him of all alleged indictments by Governor Wike’s commission.
According to him, “It is, therefore, laughable to hear Wike threaten over the TV to engage some of his bootlickers and members of the Rivers PDP, whom he garrulously christened Rivers Elders, to determine whether or not Amaechi will be dragged to court.”
Eze, who thanked the apex court for clearing Amaechi on the matter, urged Wike to allow peace to prevail within the political hemisphere of Rivers State.
He further encouraged Nigerians to celebrate “what most of us see as travails” pertaining to Amaechi’s presidential bid, noting that they are what will make him the next President of Nigeria.
