Ijaws under the aegis of the Movement for the Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality (MOSIEND) have commended Governor Nyesom Wike and former Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi for their efforts in ensuring that riverine candidates clinch the 2023 guber tickets of their respective parties.
Following the just concluded governorship primaries of the two main political parties in Rivers State, Siminalaye Fubara is now the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party while Tonye Cole is the current flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress.
In their show of appreciation to the duo political leaders of PDP and APC in the state, MOSIEND National President, Kennedy West told our correspondent that the Ijaws are happy because the two flag bearers are from the Ijaw ethnic nationality.
He said, “their emergence as standard bearers demonstrates the acceptance of fairness which the state is known for.
“The governorship position of the state has always been rotatory among the upland and riverine.
“It would have been very unfair for power to remain in the upland in 2023 after upland had held it for almost 16 years under Amaechi and Wike’s administrations.
“Since the creation of Rivers State, this spirit of fairness which allows power rotation among the upland and riverine had formed the strength of our unity and we must respect it.”
MOSIEND also called on the two Ijaw candidates to include human capital development in their manifestos, saying that Rivers people are in dire need of it.
The group further urged Fubara and Cole not to play dirty during their campaigns while warning politicians not to choose the part of election violence again.
