Bring back soldiers on Emohua/ Kalabari road, commercial drivers beg FG

Brave Dickson

Commercial drivers plying the Emohua/Kalabari axis of the East-West Road have appealed to the federal government to bring back soldiers on the road.

The drivers noted that since soldiers left the road, kidnappings became worse.

The leader of the commercial drivers at Choba park, Moses Ibidubo told our correspondent that when soldiers were on the road, kidnapping was not there.

He said, “the constant incident of kidnapping on the road is as a result of non-military absence.

“The police who are on the road are not effective at night like the soldiers.

“The soldiers used to carry out effective patrol at night which the police are not doing.

“We need soldiers back on that road because their presence to a large extent was deterring kidnappers from operating on that road.”

Ibidubo also lamented how commercial drivers have ran out of business due to fear by passengers to travel freely on the road.

Since the beginning of this year, kidnappers on the road have been whisking away their victims to unknown destination on monthly basis.
