The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a Dangote truck driver in Asaba, the Delta State capital, by enforcers of a three-day sit-at-home that started on Monday.
In a chat with journalists on Wednesday, the State Commissioner, Ari Ali, said the truck, which was carrying bags of cement from Okpella in Edo to Asaba, was intercepted on the road.
He disclosed that the driver was shot dead for violating the IPOB sit-at-home-order, while other people plying the road escaped into the bush.
According to him, “Only the driver was killed, the others ran into the bush and found their way to the police station at Ugbolu.”
It was gathered that the attackers had also set a vehicle and a tricycle ablaze in the course of the attack.
Ari said the sit-at-home-order issued to all the South-East states by the secessionist group, is not applicable in Delta as it is not part of the region.
The CP, who expressed displeasure that a life was lost and property damaged, declared that the Command would ensure that peace and security were guaranteed in the state.
He, however, vowed to smoke out the perpetrators and assured residents of their safety, as they go about their lawful duties.
