Akwa Ibom State Governor and presidential hopeful on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Udom Emmanuel has stated that he plans to replicate what he did in Akwa Ibom across Nigeria if he is elected as president.
Udom disclosed this on Wednesday when he met delegates of the PDP in Bayelsa State led by the state governor, Duoye Diri.
The Akwa Ibom Governor said he would adopt a first-class economic transformation package that would benefit all Nigerians as well as redesign the security architecture in the country.
According to him, “Today, you can see Ibom Air. I am sure Ibom Air flies into Yenagoa. Even if I say nothing, that alone should speak for me.”
“If I am faithful in my own little corner, I will be faithful in much all over Nigeria. I will replicate what I have done in Akwa Ibom on the national scale and Nigeria will be better for it.
“Why do I need to step out? It is because Nigeria needs what I am already providing in Akwa Ibom. All that remains is for me to take that from the sub-national to national level.
“I understand the language of the economy. I have hands-on experience. We have a lot of things to show for our capacity and capability.
“If we can do these at the sub-national level where we do not control policies, we will do more if we get the opportunity to control policies at the national level.”
In his remarks, Diri said maintained that Nigeria needed restructuring, as the current structure “cannot lead us to the promised land.”
He noted that the Ijaws would support any aspirant, who will restructure and restore the dignity of the country by way of fairness, equity and justice.
“I like to thank you for coming, and on behalf of the good people of Bayelsa State, and indeed, all the members of the People’s Democratic Party in Bayelsa State, we wish you to continue this issues-based campaign, integration, and oneness.
“Your Excellency, the people of this State are well informed, and we hold the position that is common to all of us as Ijaws in this country, and the number one position that we hold is that, the current superstructure of Nigeria cannot lead us to the promised land, therefore, whoever that is aspiring to be President must have in his agenda, the restructuring of this country.
“The Ijaws will stand by anyone who will restructure and bring the dignity of this country back, by way of fairness, equity and justice.
“The PDP as an opposition party must unite, our ambitions must be secondary, and the interest of all of us in the party must come first, to ensure that we wrest power from the current party in government,” Diri Stated.
