Several others were also wounded in the stampede that ensured.

The shooting follows a protest by members of the party at the party’s secretariat over the alleged hijacking of electoral material for the Local Government delegate’s election.

The protesters loyal to former Senator who represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Magnus Abe alleged that the election materials for the Delegates elections holding today have been hijacked by the former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi.

The aggrieved party loyalists said they arrived at the secretariat around 6:00 am only to meet the gate under lock and key.

Eyewitnesses said Police started shooting when some of the youths attempted to force open the gates.

Chris Finebone, the publicity secretary of the party described the protest as an “Incurable madness that only more madness”
