Rivers Police recover 3 hijacked vehicles, passengers location uknown

Unknown attackers have reportedly kidnapped passengers of three vehicles along the Emohua axis of the East-West road in Rivers State.

It was gathered that the victims were kidnapped in the late hours of Wednesday evening, as a member of a local vigilante in the area said the vehicles including a fully loaded commercial bus, one Sienna car, and a private vehicle were hijacked.

The vehicles were said to have been diverted at gunpoint by the suspects into a nearby forest around Evekwu-Rumuodogo in the area.

Meanwhile, the State Police Command, which also confirmed the incident has disclosed that the three vehicles hijacked by gunmen have been recovered.

In a statement on Thursday, the state Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka, said the vehicles were all private cars, in contrast to the account of the vigilante member.

He disclosed that one of the drivers had escaped the attack, while the kidnappers abandoned the vehicles and fled to an unknown location.

“The cars were abandoned and they were all private cars, no bus was involved. No arrest yet, but we are still working on the information we have.”

Recall that three passengers, who were kidnapped along the Kalabari-Emuoha Road had recently regained their freedom, even as commercial drivers in the area threaten to halt their services if the situation on the road is not curtailed.
