Rivers: Police hint lead on pastor’s killers

The Rivers State Police Command says it has deployed its operatives to Afam and Oloko communities in the Oyigbo and Tai Local Government Areas of the state, respectively, to instill calm after the incident that led to the killing of a pastor, Abraham Yorka.

TPCN had reported that there was tension in the Oloko community after gunmen alleged to be members of a local vigilante, OSPAC, from a neighbouring Community in Oyigbo Local Government Area attacked, inflicting injuries with severe machete and bullets wounds on some residents.

The state Police Commissioner, Friday Eboka, who confirmed the incident, said the police had a lead those behind the attack last Thursday.

According to him, “we have taken charge of the situation. We now know one of them. We will go after him and get him to find out what actually happened.”

A resident of the Oloko community, Monday Pitt, had told our correspondent that the attack took place when youths of the community went to eat while working on a farm located along the boundary with Afam when they suddenly heard women and children screaming.

“We were clearing our road from Oloko to Afam. Some women were on the farm working. Suddenly, we heard the women shouting from the other side.

“I asked what was happening; we saw these people with different rifles shooting. I was with my motorcycle. So I left it and ran. Those boys burnt it to ashes, shot people, machete people, and burnt houses.

“Some corpses are there. Some of our people are still missing. We discovered one corpse for now. Others are missing,” he narrated.

Also, a victim who had sustained bullet wounds on some parts of his body, Sunday Vasighe, alleged that the gunmen who shot him were OSPAC members from neighbouring Community in Oyigbo LGA.
