Rivers Police debunk reports on two hijacked buses

The Rivers State Police Command says it has recovered one of the passenger buses hijacked by yet-to-be-identified gunmen on East-West Road axis of the state on Monday.

The buses, said to be heading to Kalabari riverine axis in Degema, Asari-Toru and Akuku-Toru Local Government Councils from Port-Harcourt were allegedly hijacked along Degema/Buguma/Abonnema Road on East/West road.

However, in a statement on Tuesday, the State Command through its acting Spokesperson, DSP Grace Iringi-Koko debunked claims that two passenger buses were hijacked.

She said only one passenger bus was hijacked, which, according to her, has been found.

The spokesperson also noted that efforts are on to rescue those abducted while calling on the families of the victims to remain calm, as the command is working round the clock to ensure their release.

Iringi-Koko urged residents to provide the command with relevant information that would lead to the arrest of the abductors.
