A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Tonye Princewill has said only Rivers governor of Ijaw extraction can develop the marginalized riverine parts of the state.
Speaking when a socio-political group championing the emergence of a riverine governor in Rivers State in 2023, paid him a courtesy visit on Thursday, Princewill explained that for the sake of justice and equity, a riverine person should be governor of the state.
He threw his weight behind the agitation of the group but noted that it is not enough for Rivers State to have a riverine governor but, one that has the interest of Rivers people at heart and can transform the state.
Somima Wokoma who led the group on the courtesy call said power should be rotated in a multi ethnic state like Rivers, for the sake of equity and justice.
He explained that the Ijaws have qualified persons that can govern the state and bring the dividends of democracy to the Rivers people.
Somima, also urged the ijaws to support one another to ensure that one of them takes over Brick House in 2023.
