The Nigerian Navy has rescued three stranded fishermen off the Bony waters in Rivers State.
The three fishermen made a distress call after their fishing boat ran into trouble waters in the ocean at about 7:20 am.
A Nigerian Navy official told Theportcitynews that Nigerian Navy (NN) personnel of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny deployed onboard DEFENDER V, a Private Maritime Logistics Support Company Vessel that rescued the 3 fishermen on a sinking boat around Buoy 14 in Bonny.
He said that the fishermen made a distress call which prompted the rescue effort, adding that the 3 fishermen who identified themselves as Thomas Kudo, Aku Oliver and Kofi Steve were subsequently taken onboard DEFENDER V and thereafter handed over to MV HELLAM which conveyed them to Finima Community of Bonny.
He added that the prompt response by Naval personnel of FOB Bonny is part of the NN’s Search and Rescue responsibility toward the safety of lives and property in Nigeria’s maritime environment.
