Strike: Rivers Police opt-out from proposed industrial action

The Rivers State Police Command has disclosed that it will not join the proposed strike by some officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), planned to begin today across the country.

It was learnt that some officers of the Force have concluded plans to embark on industrial action over the poor welfare packages they receive from the Federal Government.

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, while in Kano on Friday, had also cautioned the officers against going ahead with the strike action.

Meanwhile, in a meeting with some officers of the State Command in Port Harcourt, on Friday, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Eboka Friday said they would not join the proposed industrial action.

While assuring the IGP of the command’s commitment, Eboka said the officers threatening strike are not aware of the IGP’s good works in the force.

He maintained that the IGP is committed to ensuring an improvement is made in the welfare of its officers.
