Team Uniport tops medal table at NUGA games

The University of Port Harcourt is leading the medals table at the ongoing 26th Nigerian Universities Games (NUGA)2022 at the University of Lagos.

The institution is sitting in the first position with 36 medals including 16 gold, 9 silver and 11 bronze.

Most medals acquired were won from individual competitions such as chess, as Uniport beat the University of Ibadan (U.I) in the round.

Uniport’s Etim Ekomobong also won the gold medal in male discus, while Obafemi Awolowo University’s (OAU) Richard Fatoriji and Agbugba Ikechukwu of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umuahia, won the silver and bronze medals respectively.

Meanwhile, the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education is fourth on the medals table with 3 gold and 3 Silver, while Rivers State University won its first gold medal in the women’s discus, as its entrant, Glory Tochukwu, beat her counterparts from Kaduna State University (KASU), and Uniport.

The games which were flagged off on Saturday amid glamour is hosting over 70 universities including public and private universities from all parts of the country.

The games are slated to run until Sunday, March 27, 2022.
