Youths stop NNPC officials from illegally selling Eleme land

Brave Dickson

Youths of Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State have stopped the officials of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC from illegally selling their land.

Aleto community in Eleme LGA had several years ago leased some portions of its land to NNPC to enhance government activities in the area.

But some officials of NNPC left the purpose for which the land was leased and started selling it to private individuals.

When the information got to the youths of the community, the youths angrily stormed the site and ordered all ongoing building construction works to stop forthwith.

Our correspondent reports that the officials of NNPC were on Friday summoned before a gathering of Eleme youth, traditional and political leaders over the illegal selling of Eleme land.

The Chief Security Officer of Eleme council authority and former Eleme Youth President, Prince Gopka who was present at the gathering told our correspondent that the people of Eleme had ordered building and land selling activities to stop forthwith on the site.

He added that, “the reason was because the NNPC officials were illegally selling Aleto land to private individuals at the expense of the community.”
