EFCC confirms arrest of ex-gov, says he has been on its watchlist

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of the immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano.

Obiano was apprehended by the anti-graft agency on Thursday night at the Lagos International Airport, on his way out of the country.

The former governor was nabbed on his way to Texas, United States of America, a few hours after he handed over to the new Governor of the state, Chukwuma Soludo.

Confirming the development, the Public Relations Officer of the commission, Wilson Uwajaren said the ex-governor has been on their watchlist prior to his handover.

According to the anti-graft agency, “Obiano has been on our watchlist for sometime now. He had immunity as a governor and that is why we could not arrest him before now.

“Today he lost the immunity and was travelling out of the country before we finally arrested him”.
