NWFL: Rivers Angels beat Delta Queens in Port Harcourt

Rivers Angels Football Club of Port Harcourt continued their smooth ride in the Nigeria Women Football League NWFL with a narrow victory over rivals Delta Queens.

The Edwin Okon tutored side pip their rivals one-nil at the game played at the University of Port Harcourt football pitch.

Speaking to newsmen after the game, the Coach of Rivers Angels Edwin Okon said picking the three maximum points is the major goal of the team despite not playing at their best due to the exodus of players on national assignment.

He said the team is working towards securing the super six ticket.

Edwin Okon said every team in the NFWL wants to play at the super six for the sole aim of securing the CAF Women’s Champions League ticket.

The tactician said the ‘Jewel of Rivers’ will work hard to make it back-to-back champions of the Nigeria Women Football League.

Rivers Angels had represented Nigeria at the maiden edition of CAF Women’s Champions League where they crashed out in the first round after losing two games and winning one match.

The team will next play Robo Queens of Lagos in group B of the NWFL.

In his remark, the Coach of Delta Queens Tosan Blankson expressed disappointment following their one nil loss to Rivers Angels.

The result is Delta Queens first loss of the season and the coach said the team will learn from the mistakes made during the game.

He said that his technical crew will take the positives from the match and promise to work on the blunders spotted during the encounter.

Tosan Blankson, however, assured that the team will bounce back in their forthcoming fixtures in the league.
