Rivers United of Port Harcourt reclaimed the top spot on the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL after a one-nil victory over visiting Enugu Rangers at the Adokiye Amesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.

Nyima Nwangwa’s 62nd-minute goal was all the ‘Pride of Rivers’ needed to secure the three maximum points at matchday 14 of the NPFL.

The victory took the team to the summit of the league with 29th points from 14 games.

Speaking to newsmen after the game, the Technical Manager of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma lauded the performance of his players who he praised for showing character in the game.

He said the doggedness of his team was able to earn them the big win in Port Harcourt.

Eguma, who won the League Bloggers Award for the Month of January, also commended Rangers FC for playing good football during the encounter.

The Tactician noted that the Antelopes who are also a title contender deserved to get a point from the match after their great display.

”Rangers are in contention, serious contention, just like Rivers United. And, I expected a top fighting today because they’re rival opponents. And I’m not surprised to fight the fight of their lives. I want to thank the players because they lived up to expectations, the game was very tough and my players gave their best. In fact, it was only their best that we needed to win this game”.

”I’m satisfied with the performance because almost every club in the league is itching to get there. No team is a pushover and every team is fighting very hard’ he said.

Rivers United will next face Nasarawa United on Sunday 27th February in Matchday 15 of the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL at the Adokiye Amaesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt by 4pm.
