IGP orders closure of Kyari’s Intelligence Response Teams

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered the closure of all satellite units of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and Special Tactical Squad across the country.

A police source, who spoke to Channels Television on Tuesday, said the IGP has also ordered the assembling of all serving officers in the satellite units at the Force Headquarters, Abuja for debriefing.

The source added that authorities have also directed that serving officers and men in the unit be demobilised and posted to commands across the country.

Meanwhile, the IGP has handed over the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police and Head of the IRT, Abba Kyari and others involved in the alleged drug trafficking deal to the authorities of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

In a statement issued by the Force on Monday, the IGP said all concerned officers linked to the drug trafficking deal have been handed over to the anti-drug agency.

“The concerned officers include DCP Abba Kyari, ACP Sunday Ubuah, ASP Bawa James, ASP John Umoru (at large), Inspr. Simon Agrigba and John Nuhu,” the statement added.

Baba also assured his administration’s commitment to upholding ethical regeneration, restoration of professional standards, enhancement of the anti-corruption drive and respect for the rule of law.
