Rivers United returned back to winning ways after a comprehensive performance against Wikki Tourist on matchday 12 of the 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL game played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
Rivers United thrashed Wikki Tourists three-nil to reclaim the top spot on the league table.

The ‘Pride of Rivers’ now has 25 points from 12 matches while Plateau United is now second with 24 points while former league leaders Remo Stars is now third on the log with 23 points.

Ebube Duru, Chijioke Akuneto, and Uche Onwuansanya were all on the score sheet as Rivers United makes the home advantage count during the game.

The NPFL leading goal scorer Ishaq Kayode Rafiu was a notable absentee but the return of safe hands Theophilus Afelokai and Chiamaka Madu gave the fans something to cheer for.

Technical Manager of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma during the post-match conference said the victory will serve as a morale booster for the team.

He said that the team will continue to overcome any obstacles that come their way.

”Well we know that the league is a race and in a race, there may be some obstacles and few stumbles along the way, but you need to brace up and shake up those obstacles and continue your journey. I feel that we’re still on track despite our setback in Jos. It is not yet over and the players are aware of that and that is why they put up a spirited effort today to ensure we get the result. Because this result will actually play a motivational role to them and will pump them up to let them know that they can keep the winning streak” he said.

Rivers United will be guest to Abia Warriors in Okigwe on matchday 13.
