Rivers United beat Heartland FC to overtake Remo Stars on NPFL table

Rivers United defeated Heartland FC of Owerri three one at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium Port Harcourt to top the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL table.

Rivers United claimed the victory after a blistering performance to pick the three maximum points.

‘The Pride of Rivers’ now tops the league with 18 points from 8 matches.

Morice Chukwu, Chijioke Akuneto, and Ishaq Kayode were on target as Rivers United secured the win in Port Harcourt.

Rivers United will now focus their attention on matchday nine fixture against in-form Remo Stars on Sunday, January 30.

Stanley Eguma Hails Rivers United Performance In 3-1 Win Over Heartland

However, Technical Adviser of Rivers United Stanley Eguma has hailed his side for putting up a sterling performance as they overcame Heartland FC 3-1 in NPFL matchday 8 tie at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.

After the game, Eguma said it was not an easy game but he was happy his team got the victory against Heartland FC.

”Yeah of course I’m happy because we got the victory, three points at stake. It was not an easy game and a lot of people before this match would have thought that it would have been a walkover but I think Heartland really shows that they have something to offer”.

”And the way we played the first half we have the game under our control, after the first half they came back and were fighting from all angles. I think our players did not concentrate enough in the second half, that is why they conceded that goal”. he said.

Ishaq Kayode was the standout performer on a great evening for Rivers United, scoring a goal and providing an assist to claim the man of the match award.

However, Rivers United’s next opponent Remo Stars arere currently second on the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL table with 17 points from 7 games.

Remo Stars will face Enugu Rangers on Wednesday 26 January 2022 at FC Ifeanyi Uba Stadium, Nnewi .
