The Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Rivers State chapter has said its planned protest against the removal of fuel subsidy, scheduled on 27 January, will hold.
In a meeting in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, the state leadership of the NLC said the action is in compliance with the directive of the union’s national leadership.
Briefing journalists at the end of the meeting, the state Chairman of the NLC, Beatrice Itubo, said the union would meet with civil society organizations in the state on Wednesday to mobilize for the planned protest.
“Arising from today’s meeting, we have resolved that we are going to comply 100 per cent with the directives of the national secretariat as regards the rally of 27 January, 2022.
“We have also agreed that we shall come out in our numbers and process from Labour House to the government house to submit our demand,” she stated.
The union noted that the state government must meet all their pending demands, including implementing the report of a tripartite committee.
An 11-member action committee was also set up during the meeting to ensure the success of the protest.
