Akpabio asks UN to extend interventions to Niger Delta

Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, has called on the United Nations to intervene in the development of the Niger Delta region.

The mister made the call when he received the Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations, Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, the past Deputy Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations, and current Director, International Organisations Department (IOD), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Samson Itegboje.

Akpabio explained that the Niger Delta needed intervention in flood remediation, education, health, amongst others. sectors.

He stated that in the area flooding, most communities in the region were affected, especially when Cameroon empty their dams, which they open once a year.

“So, whatever you can do in terms of flood remediation and assistance, it will help us also.”

Akpabio urged the United Nations’ assistance to extend educational opportunities to the region, as he noted that this would indigenes to the right attitude and the right behaviours.
