Rivers: Fire kills one in Kpofire camp

Brave Dickson

A camp built for the illegal refining of crude oil in Rivers State has ignited fire killing one artisan.

The 41yr old Tamunokubie Joseph from Okrika Local Government Area of the state was instantly burnt to death.

The victim was operating the pumping machine used for the illegal refining of crude oil popularly known as Kpofire when profuse smoke started coming out of the machine.

While attempting to switch off the machine, it ignited fire killing the victim.

Speaking with his pregnant wife, Belema Aggo, told our correspondent that her late husband attempted to flee the fire incident but was held down by some operational pipes that trapped his legs.

She said, “I am confused. I don’t know what else to do since I lost my husband in a fire accident.

“After he was killed by the fire, we buried him the same day because he was burnt to death.

“I need help right now. My husband was our breadwinner and I have a child for him.”
