The Technical Manager of Rivers United Stanley Eguma says the team is ready to counter the antics of their North African opponent Al Masry of Egypt in the second leg tie of the CAF Confederation Cup additional round play-off on Sunday in Alexandria.
The ‘Pride of Rivers’ has a slim advantage heading into the second leg fixture after beating Al Masry two-one in the first leg encounter at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.
Rivers United endured a lot of troubles from their opponents through visa delays, threats from fans, and other antics during the week before finally landing in Egypt on Thursday, 2nd December for the Sunday clash in Alexandria.
Stanley Eguma said despite their opponent’s antics, his side is committed to getting the job done in Egypt.
”The North Africans have a lot of antics and I think that we’re prepared for it. Our management has done so well to see that we overcome those antics and ensure that we have hitch-free activities in Egypt. I believe that we’re prepared and ready to face any challenges that come our way” he said.
Speaking Further, Stanley Eguma also said that Rivers United is very optimistic about getting a victory against Al Masry in Egypt.
He said the team wants to make Nigeria proud by qualifying for the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup at the expense of the Egyptian club.
”We’re very optimistic. We’re not going to let Nigerians down. We’ll try as much as possible to see that a Nigerian team get to the group stage and that is our resolution. I think everybody, the players are ready and the management is working round the clock to see that we get a good result that will see us through to the next stage. We assured Nigerians that we’re not going to let them down, all we need is for them to pray for the team, the supporters of the team to pray for us and we promised to make everyone happy” he stated.
Rivers United needs only a draw to qualify for the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
