Rivers United Technical Manager Stanley Eguma believes the club’s participation in the Ifeanyi Ekwueme Tico/Select preseason football tournament in Owerri will stand them in good stead for the CAF TotalEnergies Confederation Cup additional playoff round ties against Egyptian club Al Masry.
The “Pride of Rivers” have spent the last few days in the heart of Eastern Nigeria, making the most of having to play no competitive match since the non-commencement of the NPFL.
Al Masry FC is Rivers United’s next opponent in CAF TotalEnergies Confederations Cup, with Stanley Eguma’s side hosting the Egyptians on Sunday 28th November 2021 at their adopted ground the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.
It has been a hectic schedule for Eguma’s side with games coming in against NPFL sides Heartland FC, Abia Warriors, NNL side Apex Krane FC and non-league side First Mahi FC.
The very experienced tactician in a chat with newsmen expressed confidence that the team has played a good number of matches in Owerri has helped prepare his team for the task ahead.
“Yes, we are ready. The number of matches we have played now has really given us a complete insight into the team and what to expect on the match day. I think we are ready, everybody including the management and the players are ready for the competition”
Rivers United has the creativity to cause the visitors issues but must ensure their defense is not broken inside 90 minutes as they seek to take a good advantage into the second leg in Egypt come December 5.
