Rivers United played out a one-all draw with Enyimba fc in a pre-season friendly at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.
Samuel Kalu gave Aba Elephants the lead in the 67th minute when he capitalized on a loose ball to slot home the opener.
The goal completely out of the blue galvanized the Stanley Eguma tutored side as they pushed forward in search of the equalizer which paid off in the 79th minute of the game when Lookman Binuyo well-taken free-kick flew past the Enyimba goalkeeper.
The two teams are using the Pre-season friendly to prepare for the CAF Confederation Cup play-off games scheduled to hold later this month.
Rivers United will face Al Masri of Egypt in the first leg tie on November 28th, at the Adokiye Amaesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.
However, the ‘Pride of Rivers’ will also head to Owerri to participate in the Ifeanyi Ekwueme/Tico Select preseason football tournament.
Rivers United – who will face Heartland FC in her first game will also confront Apex Krane, Abia Warriors, and Firstmahi FC who complete teams in group B.
The involvement of Rivers United comes with great importance as the tournament will provide a platform for fine-tuning the team’s strategy ahead of the play-off tie against Al Masry.
Games will be played in two centers (Enugu & Owerri) and it is scheduled to hold from 14th – 22nd November 2021.
Enyimba fc on the other hand will play Al Ittihad of Libya in their CAF Confederation Cup play-off clash.
The ‘Peoples Elephant’ is yet to lose a game under their new Manager Finidi George.
