Police in Rivers State has arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of a 10-year-old boy.
The headless body of the victim, identified as Destiny Peter, was found in a bush in Azumini community, Isiokpo, in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of the State, Punch reports.
It was gathered that the minor was lured into the bush, where he was beheaded and certain parts of his body removed for alleged ritual purposes.
The suspects were apprehended through the help of neighbours and local vigilante, following a tip-off by a child who had called the victim for one of the suspects.
Subsequently, the suspects were forced to lead residents into the bush, where they had abandoned the remains of their victim before handing them over to the police for further investigation.
While speaking in Port Harcourt, aunty to the deceased, Victory Johnson said the victim, who lived with her for over seven years, was last seen around 4.30 pm last Thursday after a neighbour invited him to his house.
Confirming the incident, the State Police Spokesman, Nnamdi Omoni, described it as unfortunate as he also notified the arrest of the suspects.
“Yes, I can confirm it. The matter, for now, has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department and justice will be served,” he added.
