Court remands four in prison for child theft in Port Harcourt

A Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt has remanded one Victoria John-Barile, Jennifer Osuji, Ugochukwu Kere and Emmanuel Iwuh-Onyebuchi in Port Harcourt Correctional Center for Child trafficking.

The four suspects who are facing three count charges bothering on conspiracy, child trafficking and abduction, are alleged to have on 14 April, 2020, at Umuojiohi community Afara clan in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, abducted and trafficked a one-year and ten months old baby, Precious Irechukwu.

The charge read that the suspects have allegedly sold the one-year and ten months old baby to one Chinyere and Chioma at the sum of five hundred thousand naira, an offence punishable under criminal code law of Rivers State and Child Right Act of the federation.

Chief Magistrate Rita Oguguo who remanded the four suspects in prison custody after Prosecution Counsel rejected bail application by the Defence Counsel, thereafter adjourned to 17 November, 2021, for hearing.
