ADP blast Gov Wike for failing to employ 5000 Rivers youths

Ugochukwu Iwuchukwu

One year after Rivers State Executive Council approved the employment of 5000 youths into the Rivers State Civil Service, nothing much has been heard about the employment.

The approval was given at a meeting presided over by Gov. Nyesom Wike at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Wednesday. 27th October 2020.

The recruitment drive was to fill the existing vacancies in the civil service like engineers, lawyers, medical doctors, technicians, and other fields of the profession that the youths would fill.

However, reacting to the development, the Chairman of Action Democratic Party, ADP in Rivers State, Kendrick Christian said Governor Wike has failed in his promises to Rivers youths.

Kendrick Christian said the Chibuike Amaechi-led administration cares more about Rivers people than the present government.

He, however, appealed to Governor Wike to fulfill his promises to Rivers youths so as to curb the high unemployment rate in the state.

”You would be amazed at the level of qualifications you found on the street, graduates are on the streets rooming about in Rivers State. Masters degree holders are on the street roaming about doing nothing. Employing 5000 would have been laudable, would have been a good start. It is not herculean because the past administration did that, they even did more in this area. So, I think the Governor should do this for Rivers people” he said

You could recall that Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi’s administration employed over 13000 teachers to fill up vacancies in the model primary schools across the state.
