Wike swears in new council chairman in Bonny LGA

Dame Anengi Barasua, the Former Vice-Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, has been sworn in as the new Chairman of the Local Government.

This comes after the death of the former LG Chairman, David Irimagha, in September.

The ex-vice was sworn in on Thursday by Governor Nyesom Wike at the Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt.

While performing the swearing-in ceremony, the governor expressed that the death of Irimagha had come as a shock.

He noted that the deceased was a solid supporter of Bonny LGA.

The governor advised the new council boss to continue with the projects her predecessor had initiated.

According to him, this is an avenue to showcase her leadership skills and initiate new projects aimed at improving the lives of Bonny people.

He further enjoined her to keep the LGA functional, and free of crisis.

“Go ahead, continue with the projects he started, and even initiate new ones.

“It is an opportunity for you to showcase your leadership. There is nothing stopping a woman from ascending to the highest position. You never can tell what other opportunities will come if you perform better.

“I have never heard of a political crisis in Bonny in terms of leadership; I don’t want to also hear of it. Keep the place together. Work with the leadership,” Wike said.

In her remarks, the new council boss promised to adhere to the vision of her predecessor.
