CAFCL: Rivers United not afraid of Al Hilal – Eguma

Ugochukwu Iwuchukwu

Rivers United Technical Adviser, Stanley Eguma, says the team is 100 per cent focus on getting the job done as his side face Sudanese giants Al Hilal in the first leg tie of the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.

Rivers United will play host to Al Hilal at the Adokiye Aimiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, on Sunday by 4 pm Nigerian time.

The “Pride of Rivers” will look to continue their impressive form after the 2-0 aggregate score victory over Young Africans of Tanzania in the preliminary round stage and Stanley Eguma’s side have an impressive home record in this CAF Champions League campaign.

This is the first time both teams will be meeting in a CAF competition.

Speaking to newsmen ahead of the game, Stanley Eguma said Rivers United is not afraid of their opponents Al Hilal.

Eguma said the team is mindful that complacency could jeopardize their chances of winning the tie.

“We are ready for the CAF Champions League game against Al Hilal.

“Being a North African team and experienced in the continental game, we expect a tough game from Al Hilal. But Rivers United players will not relent on giving their best in the game,” he said.

Eguma, however, lamented the absence of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), which, he said, would have given Rivers United the platform to prepare adequately, adding, however, “we have done enough to win the game.”
