Technical Manager of Rivers United Stanley Eguma says it is optimistic of a good outing at the CAF Champions League as the team intensified preparations for the competition.
The team will face Young African of Tanzania in the first leg tie of the preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions League next month.
Stanley Eguma said the technical crew of the team has commenced physical conditioning of the players.
He added that the club has beefed up the team with new additions to make the team more formidable ahead of the continental engagements.
The team has also played series of friendly matches ahead of the Continental games.
The team has played 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL Champions, Akwa United, Bayelsa United, Benue Selected, Wilbros fc, and Dolphins Feeders.
CAF Appoints Hassan Mohamed Hagi from Somalia for Young Africans vs Rivers United Clash*
In the meantime, the Confederation of Africa Football CAF has appointed Hassan Mohamed Hagi from Somalia as the match official for 2021/22 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 1st preliminary round game between Young Africans of Tanzania and Rivers United FC of Nigeria.
Hassan Mohamed Hagi started refereeing in Somalia in 2008 and became an international FIFA referee in 2014.
He will be assisted by compatriots Suleiman Bashir Abdi(Assistant Referee 1) and Ali Mohamud Mahad (Assistant Referee 2), while Ahmed Hassan Hussein will serve as the fourth official.
Also, CAF named Lewis Blaze Madeleine from Seychelles as Match Commissioner.
Rivers United will be guest to Young Africans at the National Stadium in Dar Es Salaam on Sunday 12th September 2021.
The game is scheduled for 2pm (Tan), 5pm (NIG)
This will be the first-ever match between both teams in the CAF Champions League.
Rivers United will host Young Africans in the reverse fixture on Sunday 19th September 2021 in Port Harcourt.
Winner of the two legs will proceed to the next round of this season CAF Champions League.
