PIB: Five percent for host communities justified – Peter Obi

Former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi has faulted the three per cent reserved for host communities in the Petroleum Industry Bill, PID, saying that the five per cent proposed was justified.

Obi said that most Nigerians have not been to the oil-producing communities to experience the level of suffering in the area, adding that they need to be prepared for the future.

Speaking in an interview on Arise TV on Monday, Obi noted that crude oil is diminishing community, hence the suffering oil-producing communities need to be equipped for the future when oil was no longer in use.

He called on the federal government to reconsider the proposed five per cent, adding that it will give them a sense of belonging.

On Igbo presidency in 2023, Obi said that the South Region needs to convince other regions why a South-East candidate should be voted for.

He added that the region has a convincing argument to support such aspiration, stressing the region must not hold anyone to ransom to vote for a candidate from the South East.
