Maryann Ezenagu’s brace and further goals from Deborah Abiodun, Damilola Koku and Cynthia Aku gave Rivers Angels the second ticket from the WAFU B zone to the maiden edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt following a 5-1 win over the Togolese side Amis du Monde.

Abiodun opened the scoring in the 17th minute via a corner kick delivery from Ifeoma Paulinus.

In the 22nd minute, Ezenagu made no mistake in doubling Rivers Angels lead by slotting in the ball after it had slipped off the hands of the Amis du Monde goalkeeper.

Koku made it 3-0 in the 65th minute from a goalmouth scramble and just a minute later, Cynthia Aku who had come off the bench increased the tally to 4-0.

The Togolese champions got a consolation goal in the 75th minute from the spot through Nathalie Badate.

Rivers Angels won a freekick at the edge of the box in the 78th minute and Ezenagu brilliantly converted the kick to complete the route.

Monday’s win means the Jewel Of Rivers joins Hasaacas Ladies to be the two representatives from WAFU B zone to the Women’s Champions League in Egypt and both teams will be meeting for the second time in the final of the zonal qualifiers on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Honorable Boma Iyaye is expected in Abidjan on Tuesday.

The Commissioner arrived in Lagos on Monday evening and will be joining the team ahead of Thursday’s final with Hasaacas Ladies FC.

Hon Iyaye in a telephone chat with the team before Monday’s semi-final game assured the girls of continued support and informed them of his expected arrival.
