Unknown gunmen on Friday shot two persons to death over land dispute between Uegwere Boue and Yeghe Communities in Khana Local Government Areas of Rivers State.
Report has it that the two victims: Gbenegbara Nwiineebee and Gbenenee Tornwini both hailed from Uegwere Boue Community.
When contacted, the Divisional Police Officer of Bori Police Station, SP Bako told our correspondent that the two communities are fighting over boundary land that Shell oil multinational wants to lay its pipes.
The DPO therefore assured that normalcy had returned to the troubled communities, adding that a commission of inquiry had stepped in.
A lady whose name could not be mentioned due to fear of being killed but hails from one of the disputing communities said she saw when the killers invaded her community.
“I was at home when the killers invaded and started shooting sporadically.
“As the killers were leaving my community, they were shouting aloud saying, ‘we are Solo’s boys. Where are the Uegwere people. Come out and fight.’
“They wore black clothes with rifles in their hands and they left our community through Bori road, “she narrated.
Debunking the DPO, a member of Uegwere Boue Community and ex officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ipianeh Godspower said there is no land dispute.
Godspower maintained that the land dispute between Yeghe and his community had been resolved long ago in favour of his community.
He described the attacks on his community as an attempt to sack his people from their community which he had severally accused ex militant, Solomon Ndigbara of masterminding.
