The Nigeria Shooting Sports Federation NSSF says the country can multiple medals at the Olympic Games when much attention is given to the sports of Shooting.

The Immediate Past President of Nigeria Shooting Sports Federation NSSF Brig-General Lonsdale Adeoye (Rtd), during a one-day Sports Seminar for Sports Writers in Port Harcourt with the theme, Unveiling Shooting: A Millennial Sports.

Lonsdale Adeoye said Nigeria has a lot of potentials in the sport of shooting.

”This is a sport that by the time you look at the able body and the disabled you are talking about 72 medals, so it’s not a small thing to go into. Most country that defeats us in sports, they use shooting sports to defeat us and it starts early. So, before they commence athletics and other sports, they must have done shooting sports and they will win medals. And Nigeria has the highest potentials for this. I’ve gone out of the country, I’ve been to Italy, Spain, and other places to canvass support for Nigeria. And now sports it’s going to be a business and not just entertainment” he said.

The President of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN, Honour Sirawoo, who represented Rivers State Commissioner of Sports said the seminar will expose sportswriters to the rudiments of reporting the sports of shooting.

Honour Sirawoo said the one-day seminar is in line with the vision’s of Rivers State Government in promoting sports in the state.

He said the Sports Ministry is doing everything possible to ensure that no sport is left behind.

He said ”those that are supposed to promote the sports of shooting must know what they are promoting, this event is very apt to the vision of the Governor, Governor Nyesom Wike and the vision that our Ministry stands to project. Our belief is that once you understand what shooting means, you would translate that by letting the people know what it’s all about, and it will be easier for us to project it. Luckily, the ministry is doing everything possible to ensure that sports work in Rivers State”.

In his comment, the Business Manager of Silverbird Communications, Port Harcourt, Miebaka Iyenengi said the sport of shooting will receive the best of reportage on Silverbird platform.

He said Silverbird will continue to improve on its sports content in its bid to serve its listeners across the region.
