The Enugu state command has re-arrested and charged 61-year-old grandmother, Queendaline Udoh and Miracle Sunday Akpan, over the defilement of a seven-year-old in Enugu.
The Command’s PPRO, Daniel Ndukwe in a press statement on Tuesday disclosed that Miracle Sunday Akpan, a 25-year-old native of Akwa Ibom State, residing in Enugu had allegedly taken advantage of a seven-year-old victim, with help of the victim’s grandmother, Queendaline Udoh.
The statement read in part: “The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu, psc, has entreated parents/guardians to endeavour to train their children/wards with care, fear of God and uphold their fundamental human rights.
“He made this statement following the Command’s quick intervention, re-arresting, swift conclusion of investigation and charging to court of suspects involved in the case of defilement of a seven-year-old, at Ugwuagor Abakpa-Nike, Enugu East LGA, on 13/06/2021.
“It will be recalled that one Miracle Sunday Akpan aged 25, a native of Akwa Ibom State, residing at Ugwuabor Abakpa-Nike, Enugu, was alleged to have on the aforementioned date, had unlawful carnal knowledge of a seven-year-old victim (names withheld), with the victim’s grandmother, one Queendaline Udoh aged 61, a native of Imezi-Owa in Ezeagu LGA, residing in the same address; said to have been in the habit of exploiting the minor for financial gains by giving her out to men for unlawful carnal knowledge, aiding him in the act.” he said
Ndukwe noted that the suspects were earlier arrested by Neighbourhood Watch Group, but were later re-arrested by Police operatives attached to Abakpa Police Division, with the rescued victim, who was handed over to the Enugu State Ministry of Gender Affairs and Social Department.
“Recall also that the suspects were initially arrested by Neighbourhood Watch Group, but re-arrested on 16/06/2021 by Operatives of the Command attached to Abakpa Police Division, with the victim rescued and handed over to Enugu State Ministry of Gender Affairs and Social Department.
“In addition, the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (or State CID for short) for thorough investigation and prosecution of the suspects on the order of the Commissioner of Police.
“To this end, the suspects were today, 22/06/2021, charged to for Court and remanded in Nigerian Correctional Service Custody, pending further hearing of the case, following the swift concluded of investigation into the case.” he said
